Litech’s sensors identify dangerous items like lithium batteries and gas canisters in waste streams—helping waste facilities prevent fires, protect workers, and avoid unexpected shutdowns. Our solution combines the latest research with industry knowledge, to create a cutting-edge sensor combining Magnetic Induction Spectroscopy technology and AI that has not yet been seen in the industry before. Designed for flexibility, it easily fits into existing sorting lines without disrupting the current setup.

From Risk to Response
Lithium batteries are rapidly increasing, driven by the growing popularity of electronics, vapes, and other battery-powered devices. When these batteries are incorrectly sorted, they can be damaged, causing internal short circuits that often lead to fires in recycling facilities. At the same time, nitrous oxide canisters are emerging as a new and dangerous threat—particularly in urban waste streams. These hazards pose serious risks to employee safety, damage critical equipment, and result in costly, unplanned downtime.

A growing risk in the waste management industry
50% of waste facilities experience fires on a weekly or daily basis. These incidents lead to downtime, costly damages, and rising insurance premiums — with single events reaching up to $65 million in losses. The market knows the problem. Litech is delivering the solution.
Our innovative sensor is already in use and successfully detects nitrous oxide (laughing gas) canisters, a fast-emerging threat in today’s waste streams. It’s field-proven, delivering real-time alerts that enable early intervention.
The next major focus is lithium-ion battery detection — one of the most critical fire risks facing the industry today. We are actively developing this capability, with strong early results. This is part of our larger mission: to detect a wide range of hazardous materials before they pose a threat. From gas canisters to batteries and beyond, our goal is to equip waste facilities with intelligent tools that prevent incidents and protect operations.

How our sensor works
How our sensor works
Our solution induces a magnetic field through which objects pass, combining Magnetic Induction Spectroscopy (MIS) with artificial intelligence. As each object passes through a magnetic field, it generates a unique fingerprint. These fingerprints are processed using AI and matched against a growing database of hazardous materials, such as lithium batteries and nitrous oxide canisters. This enables us to detect high-risk items with exceptional accuracy, in real time, without disrupting the waste flow.
Our solution is flexible enough to integrate into existing sorting lines, and simple enough to scale across facilities of different sizes. This gives waste operators a smarter, leaner way to prevent fires and protect valuable equipment.
